Lace 'em up and hit the trail...
It's time to Seek the Peak!
This summer, 300 hikers will climb to the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington, New Hampshire on a quest to stand atop the northeast's tallest peak. With each and every step, these hardy hikers will help support the non-profit Mount Washington Observatory. Grab your pack–you should be one of them!
The 9th annual Seek the Peak Hike-a-Thon, presented once again by Subaru and L.L.Bean, is coming up on July 24-25, 2009 and it will be bigger and better than ever. In 2008, Seek the Peak hikers raised just over $100,000 in support of the legendary Mount Washington Observatory, and our goal is to hit that $100,000 milestone once again this year. With your help, we can do it!
As seen in the February edition of National Geographic Magazine, Mount Washington is home to some of the fiercest winter conditions on the planet. In summer, it is the pinnacle of the New England hiking scene, with several routes to choose from, unique above-treeline tundra and stunning views east to the Atlantic Ocean, north to Canada and west to the Adirondacks.
STP 9 features a great kick-off party in North Conway Village, loads of prizes, a killer awards party and turkey feast, fantastic goodie bags, awesome t-shirts and of course, all the beauty and excitement of Mount Washington. If you did Seek the Peak last year, you know how much fun it can be. So this time, grab a friend and do it again! If you've never participated in Seek the Peak, climbing "The Rockpile" to support a great cause, this is the year to do it!
The first step in your journey is to click the orange button above. Then, fill out the registration form, set up your pledge page and you're on your way!
Your support will help the non-profit Mount Washington Observatory maintain its famous outpost high atop Mount Washington, advancing its work in collecting weather data, performing scientific research and educating the public about the science of weather and climate.
